Interview: HalfLife-2D

I promised you guys an short interview with the creators of HalfLife-2D and here it is.
:)

SlickShot:
Hi Steeefan
Happy you could attend the interview on such short notice.

Steeefan:
yeah sure, no problem.

SlickShot:
Well First off
Have you guys figured out an acutal name for the game?
Or is it just Project Gorden.
I heard awhile back someware it was to be re-named..

Steeefan:
we had no real name for it and so we just called it 'Codename:Gordon'
because that's the only thing we came up with besides 'Half-Life 2D',
which we didn't chose because of copyright issues. it was to be renamed to
'Half-Life 2D' shortly before the release but again due to ©-issues, we stayed with C:G.

SlickShot:
What inspired you to go out, Form a team and make a 2D Platformer game based on HalfLife?

Steeefan:
that was back in may '03 where there was this hype about HL² being released in sep.03.
and there were all this screenshots and since we couldn't wait no longer till HL², we started making our own game

SlickShot:
Steeefan Congratulations to you and the rest of the team X-Tender, Warbeast
& Riviera on sucessfully launching HalfLife2D,
I have to say i love the 2D retro style, Its seriously cool.
I know its a little early to ask but are you & the rest of the team planning a sequal to your 2D platformer?

Steeefan:
Thanks (-:
the 2D sure is cool, that was because we made the game like this. in fact, we were inspired by 'Metal Slug'.
no, we are not planning a sequel and i don't think there will be one

SlickShot:
Do the team have any Future plans on porting the game to handheld devices?
There's alot of intresting handheld platforms around such as
Tapwave's Zodiac which i heard you were thinking about porting to at one point,
Whatever happened to those early plans?
Believe me you would have a large commuinity sopporting you behind the project from Zodiacgamer.com
if you decide to go ahead with it.
Some of which would gladly donate the actual console to you to help out.

Steeefan:
Hmm well, I can't tell right now. we thought about a port for the GBA, but that's somehow far away. i gonna talk with the team about zodiac, but can't promise that there will be any port.

SlickShot:
How about eventually porting to the upcoming PSP, Which will be a major player in the console battle?
The Handheld promises to be a very powerful device & is launching in early 2005.
So you have plenty of time to think about it.
But i was just wondering wether you'd like to at this point in time.

Steeefan:
yeah that's a good idea, but we haven't thought that much about a port for an handheld device, so i really can't say. sure the psp is very powerful and it would be fun to have C:G running on it, but that's far down the road, if at all.

SlickShot:
Say If someone Donated the team a PSP to share would you be more willing to develop Games/ports
for it and give them away for free?
;)

Steeefan:
well..that's a tough one. it surely would be easier to develope, but i don't think that a port will be given away free...

SlickShot:
ok then.
Have you got any plans on releasing the source so it can be ported by other
teams that have more time then you do, who could port HL2D to devices such as PSP.
Basically people with more knowlege in the handheld department?
No rudeness intended whatsoever.

Steeefan:
X-T thought about creating a 2D-J&R-SDK with just the code without all the C:G stuff, but dunno if that will be released. as for the whole C:G-source i can say, that it won't be released - at least not for everyone to D/L.

SlickShot:
well thats still just as good
As atleast more people would be able to work on it..
Do the team have any other titles or add-on's planned for the near future?
any other projects in mind?
Any hints will do..

Steeefan:
well...no. X-Tender & Warbeast work at Nuclearvision (german developer, http://www.nuclearvision.de/) and they have a game (Psychotoxic) in the works which has to be finished

SlickShot:
Thats really good to hear,

SlickShot:
Well Thanks for taking your time with this interview & basically not telling me to piss off.
:)
I wish you the best with HL2D and its growing users.

Steeefan:
No problem, thanks for your interest in our game (-:

SlickShot:
No, Thank you
for developing the game & then giving it away for free(-:

SlickShot: I'll be on my way then,
C ya later

Steeefan: C ya

NEWS: Sony PSP to sell for £140

The Sony PSP is to launch for $250 according to analysts
Which is the same price analysts believe the Nintendo DS will be selling for.
Meaning this is going to be one hard war for Sony to win..
£140 is equal to $250.
Not a bad deal for either devices seeing as what they can do.
Only a £50 diffrence between the PSP and Gameboy SP.
now which one would you rather go for?
Both "Next Generation" Devices have their own ups and downs.
Personally im going to get them both.
:)
As i am not Sony or Nintendo Freak.
I just like playing the games and thats about it.
:)

More News as it comes.

RUMOUR: RockStar Working on GTA PSP Version?

Rumours are circulating that RockStar are in the process of
developing a port of the highly known
Grand Theft Auto series.
Which will be good news For the more adult players broadening the horizon for more older players which feel they want something made for their age range with blood and violance
insted of them playing childish games such as "Pokemon" which are not made for thier age range.
We can expect announcement's for games like Dead Or Alive to follow soon as sony plays both ways Adult and Children audience's.
Like they have done sucessfully with the PS2.

Its your choice wether you want to listen to this rumour or just ignore it until we get the all clear from RockStar.
:)
Personally im not sure what to believe.
As i get more info on GTA and other PSP game developments i'll be first to post it here.

NEWS: Nintendo GBA 2 in development (Nope not the DS)

Nope im not talking about the Nintendo DS.
Not at all,
Something diffrent
The Head of David Gosen admitted at a recent ELSPA conference
Ninetndo are developing a GBA succesor to join their long line of gameboy products.
Codenamed "Gameboy Evolution" no major details have leaked out on it yet.
Hmm
Does Sony have compeition as Nintendo roll out two handhelds?

At the moment We only know that its in development and i suspect we'll hear more about it in the coming few months so stay tuned.
Nintendo have always made a loud bang in the handheld world with each of their portable consoles being an instant sucess with adults and children buying them but will they this time as Sonys Slice of cake is bigger no matter how many small slices Nintendo may have.

Now i know Nintendo has dominated the handheld sector for a long time isn't it time for someone else to sit on the throne...?
Well PSP & its friends emerged at E3 to try and take it all from Nintendo.
This is why i exepct Nintendo announced two handhelds insted on one, They needed more ground to stand on,
More Arms to Fight With.
But think about it, is this really a good idea?
I mean is it really a good idea to tell potential customers they are coming out with two handhelds around the same time?
expansion is always a good thing now im not saying it isn't.
But won't this have the consumers confused about which on to buy?
Sure one may be aimed at one audience and the other at another audience but can't you imagine people confused with which one to go with?
We dont want something lighting a cigar for us, we want simple gaming,
thats all.

The handheld market is getting crowded as more and more handhelds are being announced ,alot of them at E3.
With Tapwave Zodiac, Tigers Gizmondo, Sonys' PSP.
Only time will tell as 2005 will be the year of Handheld Bloodshed.
Prices will drop and handhelds will flop..
I just womder if Nintendo DS And Gameboy Evolution live long enough to see daylight.

Though i am curious to see what Nintendo come up with for Evolution..

Battle of the Titans March 2005 - Sony PSP / N-DS / Gizmondo / Zodiac3

Sony and Nintendo have both planned to launch their portable consoles on the same day
in March 2005 the two large companies will launch the DS and PSP.
We have yet to see which one will dominate.

The amazing device plays music and Video.

Each UMD disk stores 1.8GB worth of media or applications.
Yes thats right not MB but GB.
Thats 1800MB worth of stuff on one single 6cm disk.
Nintendo have yet to show their full specs for DS.
From the looks of it Sonys PSP has already won.
Yet who knows Nintendo may have something up their sleeves.

NEWS: Sony PSP to Hit the Streets at $500!!??

Well Frankly
No,
Most likly not as this is just the opinion of Atari's CEO Bruno Bonnell.
The word is spreading all over Google News that Sony's PSP could cost like 500 bucks well this isn't true,
I very much doubt this as Sony do actaully realise that they can't sell a handheld that costs $500.
They have good experience with product pricing and this will be no diffrent.
Theres no point in taking Bruno seriously on his guess though its more likly that the console will launch at around
$200 to $300 as analysts have said so i wouldnt worry about it,
truthfully Its more likly that a large breakdancing pig called doug will makeout with a retarded swan called tulip and fly into the sunset togeather whilst smoking PG Tips and talking about the future.
Even if it were to launch at a high price such as $500,
it would most certinally drop as all consoles do once there on the market for a few months.
Competitive price drops occur all the time wether it lives or fails.
anyone here remeber the DreamCast?
yep down to $50 bucks at one point.
So either way its good for us guys
Fail or sucess this things gonna be in my hands soon.

Although i'd put my money on it being a big success.
