The Sony PSP Takeover

PSP Follow up

Forget the Thorns, Let's Talk About the Rose

A while back a wrote about the potential problems the PSP may face. Not wanting to sound like one of the PSP naysayers, I thought I would share some of the good things about the PSP.

Let's do a quick spec run down.

CPU:
PSP CPU (System clock frequency 1~333MHz)

Main Memory:
32MB

Embedded DRAM:
4MB

Main Input/Output:
IEEE 802.11b (Wi-Fi)
USB 2.0 (Target)
Memory Stick PRO Duo
IrDA
IR Remote (SIRCS)

If you don't understand all of the technical jargon let me put it into simpler terms: the PSP is more powerful than the PS2. That's right, this new handheld is more powerful than the best selling next gen console. More powerful than the console that has been dubbed a super computer by some governments. All of this in a package that fits in your pocket.

But what good is power without games? Not to worry, the PSP is not lacking support. Here is a list of some games that have merely been announced so far.

AC Formula Front
Ape Escape (working title)
ATV Offroad Fury (working title)
Axel Impact International
BBG (working title)
Burnout (working title)
Crazy Racing: Kart Rider
Darkstalkers Chronicle (working title)
Death, Jr.
Dokodemo Issho
Dynasty Warriors (working title)
Exploration Based Horror FPS (working title)
Fighting Spirits
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (UMD movie)
Formula 1 '04
Free Running
Frogger (working title)
The Gaghary (working title)
Gran Turismo 4 Mobile
Hard Corps
Hot Shots Golf (working title)
Infected
Makai Wars
MediEvil (working title)
Mercury
Metal Gear Acid
Metal Shell
NBA ShootOut 2005
NBA Street
Need for Speed Underground (working title)
NFL Street
NHL FaceOff 2005
Powerful Pro Yakyuu (working title)
Project S (working title)
PSP Racing (working title)
Puyo Pop Fever
Ren-Goku: The Tower of Purgatory
Ridge Racer (working title)
Shinten Makai (working title)
Spider-Man 2
Sticky Balls
Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow
Tales of Eternia
Technique Cute (working title)
Ten no Kaji, Chi no mo
TGM-K
This Is Football 2005
Tiger Woods PGA Tour
Tony Hawk's Underground 2
Twisted Metal World Tour
Vulcanus Online
Wipeout Pure
World Soccer Winning Eleven (working title)
WRC
Ys: The Ark of Napishtim
Zero Hour

This is not all of the games that have been announced, and there are even still others in development that have not been announced yet. And keep in mind that it is still potentially almost another year before the PSP actually reaches American shores.

And for those of you who aren't even interested in video games (first of all, what are you doing reading this?) you should be paying attention to the PSP also. Like I mentioned earlier, the PSP will play movies as well as music, and there are even rumors that the PSP will function as a PDA and a cell phone (with the proper accessories).

Dark Knight

RUMOR: GP64

The old handheld system GP32 may have a sucessor if rumours are correct.
A V2 of the handheld will be coming out 2005 sources claim, yet to be confirmed.

The handheld will be more powerful then anything else on the market we are told.
DS and PSP may have a challanger..
More information as it comes.
This all Seems very promising.

Nintendo DS's Battery for GBA SP?

Nintendo DS's battery for GBA SP?

Lik-Sang.com has put up a product page for a new official replacement battery for the GBA SP http://www.lik-sang.com/info.... The key feature is that the battery lasts 75% longer than the current battery, upping the battery life from 10 hours to 17.5 hours.

By itself this is nothing interesting. Nintendo is releasing a battery for the GBA SP that allows you to extend it's play time. Companies have been doing similar things for years.

But I would like to draw your attention here http://gba.n64europe.com/inde...
Notice in that first picture of the battery, the Korean part includes the letters "SP." Now either this is a mistake, or this battery was actually made for use in the GBA SP.

So let's look at some things we know:
1) Nintendo has said that the Nintendo DS is going to have a battery life comparable to the GBA SP.
2) There is an eight hour battery life difference between playing the GBA SP with the light off, and playing with the light on.

This means that lighting a second screen should drop the battery life about another eight hours. Assuming all other things are equal, that puts the DS's battery life at something close to 9.5 hours, which is pretty close to the GBA SP. And that's only with the light on, the light off would up the whole thing to a whopping 26 hours of battery life.

I know that there are other things to take into consideration (like a second processor; like the wireless function; like the fact that the lighting solution is different on the DS than it is on the GBA SP; etc.), but this is just a little more insight into the DS.

Another PSP Delay?

According to a CNN Artical on Google News,
Activision CEO Bobby Kotick stated yesterday that the upcoming handheld by Sony could face another delay in the U.S.
And launch could be pushed all the way back to June 2005, This would go in the favor of Nintendo who are to unleash their own two screened gaming marvel into the handheld gaming world a few months before the PSP giving them a head start.
Many vital questions have been left un-answered by Sony, In the past the PSP has been criticized for having low battrey life and having a price tag of $500 as stated by Atari CEO Bruno Bonnel.
Nothing is for sure until Sony gives these details the all clear.
It seems as if Sony are still tweeking the PSP and making it fit for perfection, Which would explain one of the reasons for the possible delay stated by Bobby Kotick as the hardware is not completely ready whilst the DS may not be ready either they showing their pogress as with the new design.
Sony seems to stay more mysterious and gives fewer details.
We will have to wait for details such as the date to be cleared by Sony themselves.
That will take until Sony are completely satisfied with their product, Which will take as long as it will take.
But when it is out, It'll blow DS outta the water.

N-Gage Gets Worms

No not that kind.
Nokia is to get a port of Worms world party on the N-Gage/QD.
For those of you who dont know what worms actually is, its a game in which each team controls a small army of worms, The idea of the game is use weapons which include bombs and sheeps which explode(yes sheeps)to kill the other team of worms.
Its a turn based game meaning you make your move and then let the oponent make theirs.
This is one hell of a crazy game and is amazing good.

Lets hope its just as much fun on the N-Gages vertical screen as it is on PC.
The game will allow you to play against your friends via Bluetooth.

We hope to get a review of it as soon as we can.
