PSP: Gone in 60 Seconds?
11.28.04 (12:18 pm) [edit]
For those of you PSP fans in Japan, you might want to get in line soon if
you want to get your hands on a PSP system on launch day. Those in the know
seem to think that the PSP launch might make the PS2 launch of 4 years ago
look like a day at the park in comparison. Sony has made the announcement
that they will only have 200,000 PSP units available for launch day on
December 12 in Japan. And with an already heavy demand for the system, it
seems that they'll come up well short. Many retailers in Japan are not even
taking pre-orders for the system and most retailers that were taking them
have stopped. Sony has gone on to say that there is also a chance that some
of the smaller retailers will not get any systems at all due to the heavy
demand. Lik-Sang, an online game import retailer has said that they will
likely not even get 500 units, which is only ten percent of their
pre-orders, leaving them well short. They went on to say that their
distributors have told them that 500 units is too many to ask for given the
small supply of PSP units that are going to be available. Sony has stated
that they still plan to have 300,000 more units made available for sale in
the 2 weeks after the launch bringing the total of PSP systems to 500,000
before year end. This, however, might not be enough to keep the PSP buying
public from going crazy on December 12 trying to land a system. On the good
side, at least Sony should be pleased that the PSP is already drawing so
much attention and the fact that demand for their entry into the portable
market seems to be taking off pretty well. For those who weren't able to
pre-order a PSP, you better start writing Santa a letter now, unless
standing in line is something you enjoy.

Nintendo DS to Debut £130?
11.07.04 (3:53 am) [edit]
It was said that the Nintendo DS would debut in the US for $150 which is around 80 UK pounds.
But now it has been suggested(http://www.theinquirer.net/?a...)that the DS will cost £130 for UK buyers which is much higher then first stated, £50 to be precise.
If this is true then the price of the DS could very well be higher to that of the Sony PSP at launch in the UK.
As the Sony PSP has been said to debut at $200 in US which is the UK equivalent to £100,
If the PSP does happen to launch at that price in the UK next year DS will need to do alot of work and slash prices before they can get up to Sony standards.
This bit if news that has come up has got Nintendo fans slightly upset,
Yet this is not offical and worrying wont get you anywhere at this point.
More on this as we get it
