The Sony PSP Takeover

NEWS: Virgin Megastore already selling PSP games

UK Virgin Stores Selling PSP Games

The first European PSP games have appeared for sale prior to September 1st, with Activision's launch trio appearing on the shelves of Virgin Megastore today.

Spider-Man 2, Tony Hawk's Underground Remix and Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade all appered on the shelves of the chain's central London outlets this afternoon, confirming suspicions that retailers would break the official September 1st release date. Even the UMD movie Old Boy was seen, so the move clearly extends to more than just video games.

With the PSP console not on official sale in Europe until midnight on September 1st, it will be interesting if any of the launch line up of games appears in next Tuesday's UK chart.

Elsewhere, Sony has confirmed the midnight opening of the Oxford Street HMV on September 1st to celebrate the launch of its handheld console across Europe.

NEWS: Sony Vice President dubs DS a Gimmick

DS a Gimmick?

The apparent PSP vs DS rivalry has been one of the mainstays of the recent handheld revolution, but Phil Harrison, a leading Sony executive, has dismissed this competition, saying no comparison can be made between the handhelds, then calling the DS touch screen a gimmick.

"The idea of a handheld rivalry with Nintendo is an irrelevance," VP of studios Phil Harrison said in an interview with MCV. "Those formats don't appear in our planning. It's not a fair comparison; not fair on them, I should stress. That sounds arrogant, maybe, but it's the truth.

"With the DS, it's fair to say that Nintendo stepped out of the technical race and went for a feature differentiation with the touch screen," Harrison continued. "But I fear that it won't have a lasting impact beyond that of a gimmick - so the long-lasting appeal of the platform is at peril as a direct result of that."

NEWS: UK Launch Next week

UK Launch Next week

Even though I myself have had the PSP to play with many times when Arjun has lended it to me for hours at a time I am only from a small minority of people in the UK who have actually touched/played with a PSP!
And so in 7 days when the PSP officially launches here in the UK we will no doubt see shops out of stock, I believe this will be a repeat of what happened with the North American launch.
Sony will have to keep up with demands for the UK public and around christmas time most likely we will see PSP prices slashed permentally as a attempt to compete with the DS console price..

It will be interesting to see how many people decide to choose PSP over DS and what kind of people these are, I mean did Sony really get their target audience or did the PSP reach out to just about every audience children and adults?
In my opinion those who have waited are so much smarter then those who jumped to pick up DS because of the strain of the wait, I mean just how many people are realizing their mistake and thinking I should have waited?
Unless they have enough dough to buy both consoles and games for each...
:-|
Too many rich kids these days, c'mon!! one console at a times enough!

PSP Goes Online ( Again? )

PSP Online!

Sony is to give its PlayStation Portable access to the Internet by adding a browser and wireless access and yes I believe this was possible before but only via a hack I believe?
(Correct me if im wrong)

The browser will be offered as an add-on that will allow wireless Internet access on the device and a official browser which will allow the user to get the most out of the PSP connecting him/her to the worldwide net.

Sony's new Firmware 2.0 upgrade will also give increased data security on PSP and enhance digital photo-sharing and video playback capabilities allowing the fullest from the handheld....well better anyway!
No doubt software pirates will get past firmware release 2.0 and soon enough Sony will have to roll out a Firmware 3.0 :D I guess this is just natural.

Im not saying this is actually a good thing but....well....whats going to happen is going to happen.
Im against piracy on PSP as its bad for the developers and means they get less profit blah blah blah ...But its just interesting to see how these hackers come out with a new hack each time with Sony battling them with new patches..
I guess their helping the PSP become more secure as Sony stops each one of their attempts/ methods with each new firmware release...
:D
So what Sony try and add new things to firmware along with security updates making the user want to upgrade?
Cos well a user wouldn't want to just download a data security patch that stops them from doing naughty things they shouldn't be able to do,
Its just amusing to see what Sony does to get people to upgrade, I guess its all good as improved performance beats piracy every time.

Users will need a minimum of 16MB free space on a Memory Stick to download and install the new firmware 2.0 update which is a major letdown in my opinion as it seems to me 16MB is far too much for an upgrade?
Well whats to loose when performance is improved....16MB?
You decide, No-ones forcing you to upgrade.

Im Back......To say Goodbye

Hi,

I'm Back to say I will be soon leaving and the site will be under new management,
:-(
I know its been along time since there was actually an update here and there have been alot of things that have pushed this site back from updates and basically made what was once alive dead,
And as a final attempt of resurrecting the site I am planning to put it under new management of a friend who I hope will be able to make what I started work.

Hopefully he will be more dedicated and update much more regularly,

I'll be back every now and then to see the progress he has made with PSP Takeover :-)
For now

Laters,
