NEWS: Sony to crack down on PSP hacks

Sony to Fight Back!!

Sony says that it is readying another update to the PSP firmware to fix a recently disclosed bug that lets users downgrade the PSP software and run their own homebrew code on the device.

"It is not...what the device was designed for," said Patrick Seybold, a spokesman for Sony Computer Entertainment America. "We plan to deal with this issue with the next system update." He declined to say when that update would be ready. Sony is not "actively going after the people doing it," Seybold said, but the company does not advise running homebrew code on the PSP. "Running unauthorized software will void the warranty."

This was Inevitable,
Firmware 2.0 was bound to get cracked open like a nutshell.
No doubt the same will happen for 3.0 and 4.0, Its just another challenge.
I dont see how this will ever stop people will just switch back to the older firmware versions ready to play hacked games as now a Downgrader for PSP firmware has been released (http://games.slashdot.org/gam...;tid=10)

Sure older versions won't have all that improved preformance but it won't matter I have a hitch it'll be posssible to put linux PSP's soon enough (http://www.psp-linux.org) so preformance won't be much of a problem.
Why update the firmware when you can change the OS as a whole and still be able to play "cracked" games?
Now what can Sony provide to get people to upgrade in subtitute to more features and increased speed?
Just a thought...

The Talkman software supports four languages: Japanese, Chinese, English and Korean. Talkman is a language interpreter and a language trainer. The Sony PSP language program features a funky blue talking bird.

NEWS: Sony Rolls it in with the UK Launch!

We knew it would happen

We knew it would happen, Sony broke the record for the most amount of units sold after the first week of launch.
Previously Nintendo's DS held the record with 87,000 units sold in the UK within the first week and now Sony has killed that with a 185,000 units sold 7 days after release,
Sure this was nothing compared to the North American release which sold half a million units within two days of release, we cannot really expect the same thing here as the United Kingdom is much smaller.
Still this is a very big step and now that it all begins officially over here we can sit and watch as it all unfolds.
Sadly DS sales are currently exceeding PSP sales in Japan by a hell of alot.
We can hope to see this change once the long rumored price cut of PSP takes place.

250 PSP's Stolen!!

I thought this was quite amusing,

Supposedly one of the couriers carrying the games to Limerick was gagged and locked in the back of his own van.
Looters got away with 250 PSP's worth 100,000 Euros.
Looks like the worlds going PSP crazy...
That includes PSP thieves of course, PSP is the latest thing to steal,
Bye Bye Ipod.

Heres a thought
Do these PSP's count as those which have been shipped/sold by Sony??

NEWS: PSP Finally Makes European Debut

PSP Launches in UK!

Yesterday we saw the debut of PSP here in the UK.
For £179 you can now pick up a PSP from a store near you.
But it seems abit sad considering you have been able to pick up a PSP on import for the UK equivalent of £130 for awhile now...So why spend another extra £50 and wait a couple of extra months for official UK release?
For one I believe not enough people have really understood "how to import" the device or even know it was possible in the first place, some on the other hand some may have felt if anything went wrong with the device they could more easily send it off for repair(imagine sending it off to Japan).

Sony are also doing their best to prevent importing of the device by putting a stop to exporters such as Lik-Sang which is nice to know.
Its another way of saying "We don't want the people living in UK to pay the lower US price"
So us Brits have to do our best not to explode with anger having being forced to pay the extra Sony feel we have to..

Ok so now moving on enough Sony bashing after all they have provided us this small miracle ....Now just how can we bash this thing which we hold in our hands....No not that!!....The PSP!!!...
lol
(Thats what we call a bad joke)

It'll be interesting though to see how many people have PSPs in their hands in our area a week from now..
I'm hoping this was a repeat of the North American release!
Wireless play with multiple people will be great, its ok for people in the US and JP but PSP's only been here for awhile and we're looking for other PSP buyers to play with!
(More information on how the launch went later!)
